GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Thousands from across the state gathered at Lambeau Field today for the 5th annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.
Over 2,100 people climbed the equivalent of 110 stories which represents the height of the fallen World Trade Center towers.
Each climber was given a badge with the name and photograph of one of the fallen officers from that day.
Organizers, like Green Bay Metro Assistant Fire Chief Rob Goplin, tell WLUK it’s the largest stair climb in the country and it’s amazing to see how many people attend.
“For all those people to come out and remember something that was a huge impact on our country, occurred 16 years ago, still remembering it, it’s just amazing to see.”
Saturday’s event raised $110,000 for the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
It support the families of fallen firefighters and provides training programs to reduce the number of firefighter deaths.
