UNDATED (WSAU) Wisconsin’s bid for Foxconn was not as lucrative as what Michigan offered. Wisconsin officials say Michigan’s bid didn’t play into what they offered, and the state did not enter into a bidding war.
The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports Michigan offered Foxconn $3.8-billion in cash and tax incentives to locate there. Wisconsin was picked with an incentives package of $3-billion. Documents back up Governor Walker’s statements that at least one other state outbid Wisconsin to try to land the Foxconn plant to make LCD panels. The newspaper report says Wisconsin’s existing tax laws were more friendly to manufacturers, and that some of the Michigan incentives were not approved by the state legislature.
An Associated Press report indicates North Carolina may have also offered a bid for Foxconn that included more incentives than Wisconsin. Ohio and Pennsylvania also wanted to be considered, but the terms of their proposals have not been made public.
Foxconn is going to build the plant in Mount Pleasant in Racine County. Construction is expected to begin this spring.
