MADISON, WI (WSAU) Reich Brothers Holdings is buying the old Oscar Mayer plant on Madison’s northeast side. The transaction is expected to close at the end of the month. The price hasn’t been disclosed.
Mayor Paul Soglin expects the new ownership will bring as many as 3,000 jobs to the area. At the height of Oscar Mayer’s time in Madison more than 4,000 people worked at the facility. Oscar Mayer had owned the land since 1919. Lunch meat and hot dogs were processed there. The site was also Oscar Mayer’s corporate headquarters until they merged with Kraft Heinz in 2016. The facility was shut down in June.
Reich Brothers is known for purchasing and re-purposing old manufacturing plants. There’s no word on what the site will be turned into.
