GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Local law enforcement reacts to Sunday night’s mass shooting in Las Vegas.
Green Bay Police Captain Kevin Warych notes the tragedy hits home with officers roughly 2-thousand miles away.
“It’s a constant reminder why we train, why we prepare, why we have the equipment that we have, and why we connect with the community so that when tragedy does strike, the community can come together.”
Warych notes his department always has crisis plans in place.
“Tabletop scenarios will be developed to make sure that we can constantly respond to any type of situation for any type of event here in the Green Bay community. Nothing is off the table when it comes to planning for an event and protecting the safety of all of the people that come into the City of Green Bay.”
Warych says it takes a communal effort to try and prevent a tragedy like this from happening.
“If it’s suspicious to you, odds are it’s suspicious to law enforcement. The common phrase in law enforcement is ‘if you see something, say something.’”
Authorities say 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire during a country concert at Mandalay Bay and Casino, taking his own life after killing at least 58 people and injuring at least 500 others.
