GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Organizations in various Northeast Wisconsin communities are encouraging residents to shop at local stores this weekend.
Chelsea Kocken’s ‘On Broadway,’ which promotes Green Bay’s Broadway District, is among those taking part in Small Business Saturday.
This year, they’re promoting more than just the shops.
“We’re a big advocate for as well as ‘shop small,’ ‘dine small.’ We’ve got several restaurants in the district, many of who have gone along with the Small Business Saturday and do an extra special.”
Kocken says shoppers can pick up ‘passports’ are participating businesses.
“Over 60 (businesses) in Green Bay for sure, where if you get the five stamps, you can turn them in and then also win some great prizes.”
She says one of the events geared toward kids will happen at the Neville Public Museum gift shop.
“The kids go in with, I believe it is, three dollars and buy some small item and then they wrap it for them as well. Mom and dad kind of wait off to the side. After that, they’ve got a nice little gift for mom and dad to put under the tree, that mom and dad don’t know what it is.”
Kocken explains why they promote the event.
“These are small business owners that are probably your neighbors or your friends. The dollars that are going to their shops are going back then into our community.”
Kocken says this is their second year participating in Small Business Saturday, the event’s eighth year overall.
