MADISON, WI (METRO) – An investigation is underway after a hunter was found dead in Manitowoc County.
Authorities say Dan Sonnenberg’s body was discovered Saturday night in his ground blind in the Town of Newton.
He had suffered a gunshot wound. Investigators are trying to determine if his death was accidental.
Three hunters shot and wounded themselves on the opening day of Wisconsin’s gun deer season. Wisconsin DNR says the first happened in Brown County Saturday.
A 49-year-old man was working on his firearm when it discharged into his right ankle.
Another incident happened in Shawano County. A 51-year-old man bent over and his holstered handgun fired, hitting his leg.
A 3rd incident in Forest County.
A 49-year-old Crandon man was sitting in the cab of his truck when he saw a deer. When the hunter went to move his rifle, it went off, sending a bullet through his legs and then the truck’s seat and door.
The Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office and the DNR says a convicted felon was arrested for shooting a buck.
Police were investigating another incident in Shiocton Sunday.
That led authorities to a 35-year-old Black Creek man who shot a 10 point buck Saturday and was a convicted felon.
Felons are not allowed to posses a firearm.
