DOOR COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Door County Sheriff’s officials are still looking for answers in a mid-October death at Sister Bay Marina.
Authorities believe a vehicle went down one of the boat launch ramps, claiming a 24-year-old Sobieski woman’s life, while a 24-year-old De Pere woman was able to survive.
Chief Deputy Pat McCarty says the toxicology results are likely a month or so away.
“We’ll wait for that final report from the Dane County Medical Examiner, then we’ll sit down with the (Door County) District Attorney and kind of lay the case out in front of her and let her make a determination if there is anything criminal.”
Originally, sheriff’s officials expected some challenges, citing limited surveillance video and no witnesses.
However, McCarty says they have been able to gather some information.
“We’ve continued to follow up with local businesses. There were a lot of people in Sister Bay, there was a festival that weekend. We are working iwth the local businesses, those that have surveillance video, to put together the timeline of events that led up to this incident.”
After the incident happened, McCarty said they were going to see if there were any mechanical issues with the involved automobile that may have caused the mishap.
“Our investigators have looked at the vehicle. We still have retained the vehicle as evidence, but there was no abnormalities found with the vehicle.”
The incident happened on the night of October 14.
