MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke is firing back following allegations that he plagiarized parts of his master’s thesis on homeland security. CNN reported over the weekend that the veteran law enforcement officer failed to properly attribute sources dozens of time and used language from other sources without using quotation marks. Some passages appear similar to former President George W. Bush’s book “Decision Points”.
The controversy surrounds Clarke’s 2013 masters degree thesis at the Naval Postgraduate School in California. It has since been removed from the school’s website.
Clarke responded by telling the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that someone with a political agenda would make these accusations. The sheriff claimed last week that he will be joining the Department of Homeland Security. The sheriff responded to the report on Twitter by calling CNN reporter Andrew Kaczynski a “political hack” and a “sleaze bag.”
Clarke has accepted a post in the Trump administration and will become an assistant secretary in the Department of Homeland Security.
