A Florida club pro in the neighborhood because his fiance lives in Oconomowoc, fired a four under par 68 to medal at the 117th U.S. Open Golf Championship state qualifier at the Washington County Golf Club on Wednesday.
Joshua Koch is planning to wed the week after the U.S. Open at Erin Hills next month and decided to try his hand in Wisconsin rather than in Florida and it paid off by besting the field by one stroke and becomming one of five playes to move on to the sectional round of qualifying in two weeks.
Four Wisconsin pros also moved on including John Gullber of Franksville who fired a 69, Kyle Driscoll of Pewaukee came in at 71 with Austin Gaugert of Lake Geneva and Maxwell Hosking of Madison firing an even par 72 on a windy afternoon.
Former Green Bay Preble and UWGB standout Tom Boockmeier, who also turned professional, was at -2 through 10 holes but finished at +1 73 and missed out on even being one of two alternates because of a tiebreaker.
