MADISON, WI (WTAQ) – A popular German-based candy will soon be produced in Wisconsin.
Governor Scott Walker announced at a press conference in Madison today that Haribo has selected Kenosha County as the site of its first North American manufacturing facility.
The project is expected to be completed in 2020 and is said to be one of the largest investments of new operations by an overseas company in Wisconsin history.
In praising the decision, Walker said “the state’s business-friendly climate, along with our dedicated workforce and reliable infrastructure” were among the reasons the confectionary company selected Wisconsin.
Walker says the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation is working with Haribo to meet its needs and discuss possible incentives for the project.
Haribo was founded in 1920 and is based in Bonn, Germany. The company is a leader in fruit gum and licorice products, producing 100,000,000 Gold-Bear gummy snacks on a daily basis.
Nearly 7,000 people are employed by Haribo worldwide.
