MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) Bond is set at a quarter-million dollars for a 39-year-old Milwaukee woman following her arraignment on first-degree reckless homicide and arson charges.
Java Wright was in court yesterday to be officially charged in the death last Friday of 72-year-old Willie Greer. She is accused of smashing windows in his building and pouring gasoline on curtains and then setting them on fire with a cigarette lighter.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office ruled Greer’s death a homicide and says he died partly due to smoke inhalation.
Wright’s boyfriend lived in the house. She was locked out after an argument, and allegedly went into a nearby garage and used a wooded crate, gasoline and a lighter to start the fire. A police report said Greer was not the intended victim, and that she wanted to get her boyfriend out of the house. If convicted she could get 40-years in prison.
