WAUPACA COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – Authorities have identified the 15-year-old Waupaca boy who was accidentally shot and killed by his 17-year-old friend.
Waupaca County Sheriff Brad Hardel says Jacob Peglow was shot in the upper chest, near the shoulder, by a .22 caliber firearm on Wednesday afternoon.
Hardel says dispatch advised those on scene how to attempt life-saving measures.
The sheriff’s office is arranging counselors for both the family and the first responders who arrived at the Town of Farmington residence on Rieben Road.
“It’s one of those things that you go through that even though it’s part of our job, it’s not easy. Our staff needs counseling also.”
Hardel says the boys likely did not know the gun was loaded at the time.
“When you’re dealing with a firearm, treat it as it’s loaded all the time, no matter what.”
Hardel says no charges will be filed.
