GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Governor Scott Walker making a stop in Green Bay Thursday highlighting efforts to detect and prevent fraud as a part of Fight Fraud Wisconsin Day.
Walker says in 2016, $51 million dollars was saved on the state and local level thanks to the help from the Department of Health Services Office of the Inspector General.
“This is a win, not just for the taxpayers who are certainly very concerned about making sure taxpayers dollars are not wasted, but also for those people who truly need public assistance,” said Walker.
The OIG is responsible for detecting fraud, waste and abuse of public assistance programs.
“Anytime there’s areas where waste or fraud or overpayments occur, that’s money that’s taken away from vital services that are needed for our friends and our neighbors,” Walker stated.
Last year, roughly $19,000,000 was discovered in FoodShare program overpayments and future savings in the Badger State.
