GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – One Green Bay Alderman is proposing a way to cut back on the number of drunk drivers on the roads after a Packers game.
Right now, on-street parking is not allowed overnight and lawn parking is only allowed on game-days.
Chris Wery is looking to allow those parking options available 24 hours after a game ends.
“Are we really going to complain that a car is sitting on a lawn or on the street for 24 hours after a Packers game, when it might avoid someone driving home drunk…I don’t think so.”
Wery says residents in his district have spoken to him about the issue.
“When I walk around the neighborhoods and talk to different people in my district, this actually came up with some people who live over on Shadow and Thorndale and they said, you know, you have some people coming back who say, I have to get this car moved,” said Wery. “Instead just leave it and not worry about it until the next day. We’re trying to do everything we can to curb drunk driving.”
The topic will be brought up at Wednesday’s Improvement and Service Committee meeting.
Wery hopes the new parking options will be in place by fall.
