An incredible run of 18 consecutive regular season Horizon League championships for the Green Bay Phoenix women looked like it might come to an end after a loss last Friday at UW Milwaukee, dropping GB two games behind Wright State with three to play.
But on Monday, Green Bay helped themselves and got some help to stay in the race. The Phoenix closed their home schedule at the Kress Events Center by routing UIC 65-31 behind Jessica Lindstrom’s 20th career double-double. She scored 18 points and pulled down 13 rebounds. Mehryn Kraker added 13 and Jen Wellnitz put up 11 as Green Bay improved to 22-5 overall and 13-3 in the Horizon.
More help arrived with Detroit knocking off league leading Wright State 85-80, dropping the Raiders to 14-2 in the league, just one game better than the Phoenix.
Green Bay travels to Wright State on Friday and with a win, they’d pull even and hold the tiebreaker by virtue of a regular season sweep of the Raiders putting the Phoenix in position to extend the run to 19 straight Horizon League titles.
