Wisconsin Badger Head Coach Greg Gard pulled a trick play out of the bag to salvage an 81-80 victory over Western Kentucky Wednesday night at the Kohl Center.
After the Hilltoppers tied the game at 80 with :02 to play, Gard had Brevin Pritzl take the ball out of bounds. Able to run the baseline, Pritzl watched freshman Brad Davison race towards him but instead of receiving the pass, he set a screen for a defender chasing Prtizl. The collission led to a foul and Davison calmly sank the first free throw before missing the second intentionally leaving Western no time to make a play.
The Badgers nearly squandered an 11 point second half lead but hung on with Prtizl and Ethan Happ each scoring 17 points. Pritzl, the former De Pere Redbird, set a new career high by knocking down four of five three point attempts.
The Badgers improved to 5-7 on the season and they’ll now take a week off for final exams before returning to the floor December 23, hosting the Green Bay Phoenix.
