MILWAUKEE, WI (WSAU) Marquette University is downsizing its plans for an athletic performance research center.
First announced in January 2016, the school is going to locate it in a different spot on campus, and it will be smaller. The Milwaukee Business Journal reports Marquette officials decided during their recent master planning process to locate the center across from the Al McGuire Center near the southwest corner of West Wells and North 12th streets. Originally, the university planned a $120-million center on West Michigan Street near Interstate 43.
Aurora Health Care is contributing about one-quarter of the cost of the new building. The new site it will be located across from the Aurora Research Institute and the Aurora Siani Medical Center. The original site covered about four city blocks. The new site – currently a one-block parking lot – could still include a taller building with extra floors. Marquette says the construction that’s been approved is the first phase of an up-to four-phase build-out.
Marquette administrators approved the change last Friday. Groundbreaking is expected in a few weeks.
