UNDATED (WSAU) – Southern Wisconsin was denied disaster recovery funding from FEMA for July’s flooding, but the U.S. Small Business Administration has OK’ed low-interest disaster loans for the area.
Governor Scott Walker made the request to the SBA after it became apparent that flood damage wasn’t extensive enough to meet FEMA disaster relief levels.
Property owners who suffered flood damage can get loans up to $40,00 for damaged property, $200,000 for damaged homes, and $2-million for business damage or losses.
Kenosha, Racine and Walworth counties are eligible, as are neighboring communities in Jefferson, Milwaukee, Rock and Waukesha counties.
Flooding on July 11 brought more than 8-inches of rain in southeastern Wisconsin, and causing the Fox River to overflow its banks.
No serious injuries were reported, but several hundred homes were damaged.
