MADISON, WI (WSAU) – Democratic governor candidate Dana Wachs has come out against Governor Walker’s Foxconn deal.
The Wisconsin State Assembly member announced over the weekend that he plans to vote no on the $3-billion incentive package to lure the Taiwanese manufacturing company to the state. Wachs says he opposes a deal that would put Wisconsin tax payers on the hook until 2043.
He said in a news release: “I strongly oppose a deal that would bring Chinese-style economics to Wisconsin, complete with air and water pollution and reckless government giveaways. I have always supported bringing in good jobs. That’s something I’ve worked on in Eau Claire and across party lines in Madison. But Foxconn is a bad deal for Wisconsin, and I am against it”.
Foxconn has proposed creating 13,000 jobs by building a $10-billion plant in southeastern Wisconsin.
Today the state assembly is scheduled to vote on an amendment to the Foxconn agreement that would tie state incentives to the number of jobs created with salaries over $30,000 a year.
