RHINELANDER, WI (WSAU-WXPR) — In a letter sent to Mayor Dick Johns, David Funkhouser said he was no longer interested in being Rhinelander’s next Police Chief.
In the letter dated for April 1st, Funkhouser said it wouldn’t be in his personal or professional interest to take the Rhinelander job.
On March 16th, Funkhouser was named the top candidate by Rhinelander’s Police and Fire Commission. Two other local candidates were in the final three: Interim Rhinelander Police Chief Captain Ron Lueneburg and Oneida County Sheriff’s Department Captain Lloyd Gauthier.
The Rhinelander City Council Monday was scheduled to act on Funkhouser’s contract, but after a closed session, did not recommend action on it.
The Police and Fire Commission does the hiring process for the city and they are set to have a meeting on Thursday.
Funkhouser has been chief in Kiel, WI for more than 11 years.
