If it’s a September surge, it’s coming a little late, but the Milwaukee Brewers are playing impressive baseball in the final month, opening a four game series against the St. Louis Cardinals with a 12-5 rout Thursday night at Busch Stadium.
The Brewers have now won seven out of their last eight games, all against teams above them in the National League Central Division, all vying for playoff spots.
After falling behind by a run in the first, the Brewers offense came to life against Jaime Garcia who never got out of the fourth, giving up five runs on eight hits.
Domingo Santana and Orlando Arcia hit back to back home runs in the second inning as Milwaukee pushed in front. The offense then erupted for six runs in the sixth, highlighted by Martin Maldanado’s two run shot.
The Brewers piled up 17 hits, Hernan Perez went four for five with three runs batted in.
Junior Guerra lasted five innings, giving up three runs but still earned his eighth victory.
The Brewers will send Jimmy Nelson against Carlos Martinez in game two Friday night. Pre-game coverage begins at 6:40 PM on WTAQ.
