LADYSMITH, WI (WTAQ) – Authorities in northwestern Wisconsin say they have arrested 43 year old Doug Nitek, a suspect in the shooting of a western Wisconsin sheriff’s deputy.
Nitek was arrested at 10:18 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 30. Deputies used the Eau Claire County Regional Robot to search a residence at the scene of the incident, where they were shot at once before Nitek surrendered.
This all started late Saturday, when deputies were called out just before 11 p.m.
Rusk County Sheriff’s Department deputy, Dan Glaze responded to a call about a suspicious vehicle south of Ladysmith.
The deputy told dispatch he had found the vehicle in a field.
Sheriff Jeff Wallace says dispatch then lost contact with Glaze, and when area law enforcement arrived a short time later, they found the deputy had been shot and killed.
Nitek currently awaits formal charges at an area jail.
