MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) – A police officer in Milwaukee has been arrested for alleged sexual assault.
In a statement from the Milwaukee Police Department, Dominique Heaggan-Brown was arrested Wednesday after a criminal complaint was filed by the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
The unidentified victim told officials that Heaggan-Brown sexually assaulted him while off-duty on August 15.
The complaint against Heaggan-Brown came two days after he fatally shot Sylville Smith, 23, leading to several nights of riots and unrest in the city.
An internal investigation has been launched and police say the 24-year-old Heaggan-Brown is suspended. Heaggan-Brown joined the Milwaukee Police Department in 2010.
The Wisconsin Department of Justice investigated the fatal shooting of Smith and has turned the case over to Milwaukee County District Attorney John Chisholm. It’s not clear when a decision will be made on charges in that case.
