UNDATED (WSAU) – Milwaukee County’s Sheriff could be the next head of Homeland Security. Sheriff David Clarke met with President-elect Donald Trump Monday in New York City. Clarke is seen as a likely candidate for Homeland Security or another post in the Trump administration dealing with law enforcement issues.
Clarke has been Milwaukee County Sheriff since 2002, and holds a degree in criminal justice management from Concordia University’s School of Continuing Education. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia.
Clarke ran as a Democrat in Milwaukee County but has been a popular speaker with conservative groups. He’s been a fierce critics of the Black Lives Matter movement. During an appearance at the Republican National Convention he led the crowd in a “blue lives matter” chant.
Sources say Trump is also considering Congressman Mike McCall, Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, to lead the Department of Homeland Security. They will meet on Tuesday.
