CHIPPEWA FALLS, WI (WSAU) The ringing sound of the holiday season is missing in Chippewa Falls.
The Salvation Army of Greater Chippewa Valley says for the first time ever no one has signed-up to ring a bell at a red kettle in Chippewa Falls this year. The chapter also covers the City of Eau Claire, where volunteer numbers are also down.
Local Salvation Army Director Karen Frederick says without any bell ringers it’s unlikely they’ll hit their $150,000 goal this holiday season. About 80-percent of their operating budget comes through the red kettle campaign during the holidays. The local Salvation Army chapter says they provide services for up to 700 needy families each month.
