MINOCQUA, WI (WSAU-WXPR) — On a trip through the northwoods Thursday, Governor Scott Walker flatly denied leaving Wisconsin for Washington in January to join President-elect Donald Trump’s cabinet.
Walker himself sought the White House in the summer of 2015, but speaking at the Northen Wisconsin Economic Development Summit in Minocqua, he now says there’s a new responsibility he’s taking on and his most useful place is at home, in Wisconsin.
“I think the best thing I could do for this state, for this country, is continue to be governor. I’ll, next week, start as the chair of the Governor’s Association and I think I can help connect the governors with the Congress and a new President going forward,” said Walker.
Walker also unveiled a multi-million dollar program, the Rural Economic Development Commission, designed to help create more jobs in rural areas.
Walker said, “$10 million grants provided to help out with economic development to move people up into middle-class supporting jobs to help with housing to draw housing into areas with high demand economic development.”
The governor also mentioned the money going towards workforce education. These grants can only be used towards workforce development.
