PINE LAKE, WI (WSAU-WXPR) — A $5,000 reward is being offered for information on the poisoning of wildlife north of Rhinelander, including a bald eagle.
U.S. Fish and Wildlife spokesperson Tina Shaw says the eagle, a few ravens, and a raccoon were found back in July.
Shaw said, “We got the information back from our forensic lab showing the raccoon carcass had been laced with a carbofuran and the birds had ingested that while scavenging on the raccoon.”
The birds were discovered on the shoulder of Pine Lake Road north of Haven Lake. Carbofuran is an agricultural pesticide used to kill insects, mites and nematodes. Carbofuran is extremely toxic to birds, fish and bees.
Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call the Wisconsin DNR Office of Law Enforcement in Madison at 1-800-847-9367, or local law enforcement.
