WAUPACA, Wis. (WSAU) — June 1st was the deadline for candidates to file their required election papers and signatures to get on the November ballot, but that deadline had to be extended for two offices.
Government Accountability Board spokesman Reid Magney says Waupaca and Milwaukee County have an unusual situation which requires the state to extend the deadline to file until 5:00 p.m. Monday. Elections Division Administrator Michael Haas says State Representative Mandela Barnes (Milwaukee District 11) and Waupaca County District Attorney John P. Snider did not file nomination papers by the deadline Wednesday to seek reelection. Because they did not notify the Government Accountability Board that they would not be candidates for the offices they currently hold, state law requires the filing deadlines to be extended.
Magney says in Assembly District 11, two other candidates have filed to run for the seat. In Waupaca County, one candidate has filed the required paperwork to run for district attorney. Assistant Waupaca County District Attorney and former Portage County Assistant DA Veronica Isherwood has filed papers to seek her boss’ job.
A list of all candidates who filed by the deadline is available on the Board’s website.
