(WNFL) GRAND CHUTE, WI – Troy Stokes, Jr. homered and drove in three runs to pace the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to a 5-3 win over the Peoria Chiefs Monday afternoon at Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
Peoria (49-40 overall , 9-10 second half) took the lead in the top of the first inning with a two-out RBI single by Chris Chinea.Stokes tied the game when he hit a leadoff home run in the bottom of the first for the Rattlers. The homer was his second of the season.Wisconsin (44-45, 10-9) took the lead in the bottom of the third inning and Stokes played a big part in the frame. Juan Ortiz started the inning with a single. The Chiefs committed an error on a slow roller off the bat of Sthervin Matos as they tried to get a force at second. By the time the ball was retrieved, Ortiz was on third and Matos was on second. Stokes drilled a single to right to drive in both runners and the Rattlers were up 3-1. Later in the inning, Jake Gatewood knocked in Stokes with a sacrifice fly.Trey Supak, Wisconsin’s starting pitcher, made his Midwest League debut on Monday. He allowed a run on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts over four innings for a no decision.Isan Diaz added to the Rattlers lead in the bottom of the fifth inning with a leadoff home run. The homer was the twelfth of the season for Diaz and put the Rattlers up 5-2. He leads the Midwest League in home runs.Devin Williams was the winning pitcher for Wisconsin. The only run he allowed was a leadoff homer to Eli Alvarez in the top of the eighth inning. Williams went four innings, gave up two hits, walked four, and struck out four to earn his fifth win of the season.Nate Griep allowed an unearned run in the ninth inning and struck out two to earn his fourteenth save of the season. Griep leads the Midwest League in saves.Wisconsin took three of four from the Chiefs in the series.
