History does repeat itself. For the second year in a row, the Green Bay Phoenix Women made an appearance in a national poll, ranked 22nd in this week’s USA Today Coaches poll, and the next time on the floor, they were upset by the Oakland University Grizzlies. Thursday night, Oakland did it to the Phoenix again, winning 58-56 at the Kress Events Center. It was a difficult night for the Green Bay women, the game was tied at 27 at the half and the Phoenix found themselves down 48-38 early in the 4th quarter. They rallied for a one point lead on a Sam Terry free throw but Oakland answered with a layup. Green Bay had two possessions with a shot to win in the final minute but they turned it over and missed a three point shot. Jessica Lindstrom led the Phoenix with 16 points and 8 rebounds, Allie LeClaire added 11. Green Bay shot just 35.5% from the floor (22 of 62). Oakland made 10 of 21 three point shots in the win. The loss is the first in Horizon League play for the Phoenix, now 7-1 and they are 17-3 overall as their 14 game winning streak got snapped. The home court streak was 17 dating back to last year when Oakland came to the Kress and knocked off the nationally ranked Phoenix. Green Bay returns to the floor Saturday afternoon at 1:00 PM, hosting Detroit at the Kress. The Titans arrive after winning at Milwaukee Thursday night 89-79.
