WAUPUN, WI (WTAQ) – A Dodge County jury determined that an inmate at the state prison in Waupun was faking the mental health issues he used as reasons why he threw bodily substances at prison employees.
27-year-old Cody Cromwell was convicted Wednesday of five counts of assault by prisoners as a habitual criminal.
Prosecutors said that on 3 occasions in 2014, Cromwell expelled bodily substances, including urine, feces, semen and saliva on 5 different correctional officers at the prison.
Cromwell said that a mental disease was behind the attacks. Prosecutors said a psychiatrist found that Cromwell was feigning his symptoms and had no mental disease.
The jury returned a verdict in less than 20 minutes.
Cromwell faces up to 37 additional years in prison.
