APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A cake decorator from Appleton has won Dairy Queen’s “Iron Tip” cake decorating contest.
Candice Gumm, who works at the Dairy Queen store on Richmond Street in Appleton, beat out hundreds of competitors at the contest held in Puerto Rico this week.
Gumm won $1,000 cash and additional prizes.
261 Dairy Queen decorators submitted over 1,000 photos of the best cakes as part of the contest.
Five finalists were selected based on placement of decorations, cake borders, decorative writing, color scheme and overall appearance.
In the final round, each of the finalists had to make 3 cakes. One was judged on speed to copy a design, one was a birthday cake and the third centered on a tropical theme.
