GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Another state lawmaker in Northeast Wisconsin says he will not run for the open Congressional seat being vacated by Republican Reid Ribble.
Wisconsin State Rep. David Steffen (R-Green Bay) issued a statement Tuesday saying he wants to continue his current role in Madison.
“After the retirement announcement by Congressman Ribble, I spent the next three weeks exploring the possibility of running for the 8th Congressional District. After extensive consideration, one critical fact influenced my decision not to run for Congress this fall: I am really enjoying my current role in the Wisconsin State Assembly,” said Steffen. “As the State Representative to the 4th District, I have successfully led on several important issues to the residents of my district and the state. I believe my passion, effort and ability are currently best suited for building upon those legislative successes and making Wisconsin an even better place to live, work and play.”
Already announcing plans to run for the seat are Wisconsin State Senator Frank Lasee (R-De Pere), Republican Terry McNulty and Independent Wendy Gribben.
Wisconsin State Rep. Andre Jacque (R-De Pere) has previously said he’s considering a run.
On the Democratic side, Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson and former State Rep. Penny Bernard Schaber of Appleton are considering running.
