WAUWATOSA, WI (WTAQ) – Milwaukee is not the only city with more vehicle thefts and carjackings.
Police say the problem has spread to Wauwatosa, one of Milwaukee’s largest adjacent suburbs.
‘Tosa Police say 169 vehicles were reported stolen last year, almost 3 times the thefts from two years ago — and as of last week, 22 vehicles were lifted since the start of 2016.
Police captain Tim Sharpee tells Wauwatosa Now that many the most recent thefts were due to drivers leaving their unattended vehicles running while warming them up.
He says the Milwaukee carjacking problem has filtered into his suburb as well — and unlike the joyrides of the past, police are finding more stolen vehicles destroyed with lucrative parts gone so they can be sold.
