GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A Green Bay man is accused of having sex with his girlfriend’s 15-year-old cousin last October.
20-year-old Dante R. Newell is facing a charge of second-degree sexual assault of a child under 16.
According to the criminal complaint, police were called around 8:45 a.m. on Sunday, October 11, 2015 to the area of August and Jaster streets. There, they were told by the alleged victim about what happened at her cousin’s house the night before.
The girl said she went over for a “girls’ night” to watch movies and sleep over with her other cousins. However, Dante hung around for the featured films.
She told police that Dante and his girlfriend (a cousin), “Were smoking pot but she couldn’t have any because she is a snitch.” The girl fell asleep on the living room floor cuddled up with her cousins around 12:30 a.m. Sunday.
But in the middle of the night, the girl woke up realizing someone was tapping her on the leg. She assumed at first it was one of her young cousins, but then saw Dante on top of her and was having sex with her. She explained she was still a bit groggy at the time, as it was between 2 and 4 a.m.
Per the complaint, she told police, “Dante’s penis was inside her vagina, and he was kissing the right side of her neck. She didn’t know if he was wearing a condom. She said it was the first time she ever had intercourse.”
Dante was told by her to get off, and he replied, “Are you feeling me?” She took it to mean Dante was asking her if she liked what was happening. Dante told her they could leave and go somewhere else to finish.
She then pushed Dante off of her, and he wanted to know what she meant by that. She told him, “You know exactly what I mean.”
The sex caused the girl to bleed vaginally, and that she was scared. She told the cops she wanted to leave, but she, “Knew it would not be safe to walk home since it was in the middle of the night.”
The girl walked to another cousin’s home, and used the phone to call her mom to tell her what happened. A younger cousin confirmed to police that she awoke to see Dante on top of the victim, but wasn’t sure what was happening.
If convicted of the felony, Newell faces up to 40 years in prison.
