BALSAM LAKE, WI (WTAQ) – A western Wisconsin couple is due back in court March 11th, after allegedly being drunk in their pickup truck and letting the woman’s 9-year-old drive.
36-year-old Jason Roth and 32-year-old Amanda Eggert, both of Glenwood City, have pleaded not guilty to two felony counts each of reckless endangerment and two misdemeanor counts of child neglect.
Polk County authorities arrested the couple about a week ago, after being told that the 9-year-old was weaving in-and-out of traffic for miles with an 11-month-old baby strapped in a car seat and the parents drunk as passengers.
The truck’s transmission was reportedly still in drive when the child left the vehicle — and an officer testified that he turned it off before it could go into the Apple River at a boat launch.
Eggert is also charged with battery to a firefighter and an EMT, and disorderly conduct in the incident.
