Sheboygan, WI (WTAQ) – Super Bowl Sunday will be a busier time for police and sheriff’s departments in Sheboygan and Manitowoc County as the first High Visibility Education and Enforcement Task Force of 2016 will be in place this Sunday.
That means extra officers will be on the roads watching and stopping vehicles, possibly due to a driver driving under the influence. Sheboygan Police Sergeant Joel Kuszynski is one of the cops taking part.
He says the campaign is about prevention and not making arrests.
“what we’re doing is…we’re working with the taverns, we’re passing out posters, just make people aware this is going on. so, hopefully they plan ahead, get a ride before they drive home from the bars”
Sheboygan Police Captain Jim Veeser (VEE-zer) says the idea is to get the word out now.
“advising the public that HVEE efforts are underway through social media and visibly seeing officers at local establishments. hopefully that will result in avoiding the dangers and consequences of impaired driving”
The task force was first used back in the Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday seasons, and more efforts will be used throughout 2016.
