UNDATED (WSAU) A charter flight carrying the Minnesota Vikings had a rough arrival at the airport in Appleton. An airport spokesperson says the flight, operated by Delta, began to slide when a rear wheel left the runway. It happened after the plane landed and was starting to taxi towards the terminal.
There were no injuries onboard the flight, but the team was stuck on the aircraft for several hours before they could de-plane. A ladder truck was eventually called to get the passengers off the plane. The New London and Grand Chute fire departments responded. The fire equipment was needed because the airport doesn’t normally have equipment for that size plane.
A tweet from airport staff says flight #8867 landed safely. There were 150 people onboard. The team tweeted: “
“While taxiing after a safe landing, the team plane slid off the runway and became stuck…Back at the team hotel, the #Vikings are nestled, all snug in their beds.”pol
The inclident happened around 6:30pm amid deteriorating weather in the area. Snow had been falling for several hours.
The Vikings were travelling from Minneapolis for their Saturday game against the Green Bay Packers. NFL teams stay in Appleton when playing the Packers, and bus to Green Bay on the day of the game.
