EAU CLAIRE, WI (WSAU) Crews in Eau Claire may have to race the snow. City leaders hope to finish replacing that broken riverfront sewer pipe at Phoenix Park on Friday. That’s the pipe that burst in the fall of 2015, but wasn’t discovered until last summer.
The state says the leak sent tens of millions of gallons of raw sewage into the Eau Claire River.
It’s thought that a barge that was working on a sea wall broke free during the storm and damaged the pipe. The permanent repair work is replacing a temporary pipe that had been installed a few months ago.
The city is still determining who is responsible for the damage and who will pay for the repairs.
