GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A local cancer center is honored to be participating in a groundbreaking new cancer clinical trial.
Christy Gilchrist is director of HSHS St. Vincent Hospital Regional Cancer Center Research Institute and says the disease is usually characterized by its location in the body but this new trial focuses on genetics to closer pinpoint a specific treatment for the individual.
“The National Cancer Institute put together the MATCH trial and that aims to look at a solid tumor and a specific gene sequence with a type of therapy.”
Gilchrist says it’s the first-of-its-kind precision medicine trial.
“Because we can cut out and be able to estimate which of these drugs or treatments are going to be more successful for patients based on their genetic make-up.”
The N-C-I MATCH trial is for adult cancer patients with solid tumors and lymphomas that are no longer responding to standard treatment.
To learn more, patients should first speak with their oncologist.
