SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) – Firefighters from around the area were on the scene of a major fire at an apartment complex.
Dispatchers were called out around 4:20 am on Sunday for a report of a major fire at the Embers Apartments. When crews arrived, they found the north side of the building heavily engulfed in flames. Multiple fire departments were called in to assist, including Kohler, Sheboygan Falls, and the Town of Wilson/Black River. Sheboygan police also responded to try and evacuate everyone from the scene.
Fire fighters spent several hours battling the fire, and were up on the roof of the building opening holes to vent heat and smoke.
Sheboygan assistant fire chief Vernon Koch says that there is one fatality, but that the person’s identity is not being released at this time. He also says that fire alarms were working inside the building, which helped get the rest of the residents out safely.
No further information is being released. The state fire marshals are being called out to investigate.
