MENASHA, Wis (WSAU) Wisconsin police continue to be frustrated by the number of motorists who continue to drive without valid licenses. Some have had their licenses suspended for various violations, like drunk driving. Others are driving without bothering to get licenses at all.
USA TODAY Media reports that police in Menasha stopped a driver earlier this month with 55 citations. He was pulled over at 2am on April 9 for a non-working brake light. The officer found the 22-year-old had already been cited 18 times for operating with a suspended license, plus 11 citations for driving without a valid license, 5 convictions for operating after revocation, 19 citations for auto insurance violations, and two citations for not having his vehicle registered.
The driver did have to post bond from one of the earlier violations, which he is likely to forfeit. He was taken to jail for bail jumping. But most drivers cannot be jailed in Wisconsin for most traffic offenses.
The AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety reports that 18-percent of fatal accidents nationwide involve a driver without a valid license.
