STEVENS POINT, WI (WTAQ) – A central Wisconsin man has been ordered to stand trial for allegedly killing his estranged wife and getting into a standoff with police.
58-year-old Larry Sanchez of Bancroft is scheduled to enter pleas October 19th to 4 Portage County felony charges that include intentional and reckless homicide, and not complying with officers.
His wife Lisa was found dead at a neighbor’s house on June 3rd, which triggered an intense search for her husband. Sanchez was later found inside his home, and officials say he wouldn’t leave until officers used tear gas and pepper spray to force him out.
Six days later, authorities say he tried killing himself in jail — and he allegedly enlisted another inmate to help him.
19-year-old Brian Kraus is free on a signature bond, after appearing in court Monday on charges of assisting suicide and violating county institution laws. His formal initial appearance is set to resume next Monday.
