Favre leads first Hall list

The Pro Football Hall of Fame has released it’s list of 108 Modern Era nominees for enshrinement in the class of 2016 and former Packers great Brett Favre leads the list.   In his first year of eligibility, the record smashing “gunslinger” is certain to be a first ballot, if not unanimous choice to enter the Hall next summer.  Also on the ballot for the first time are Terrell Owens and Allen Faneca.  Other former Green Bay Packers on the list include LeRoy Butler who was the anchor of the Super Bowl winning defense,named to the All-Decade team in the 1990’s.   Sterling Sharpe had his career cut short by a neck injury after catching 595 passes in seven seasons as a Packer.  Head Coach Mike Holmgren won a Super Bowl with the Pack and took the team to another and he also led Seattle to the championshp game.  Darren Sharper is also on the list and his football credentials are certainly viable with 67 career interceptions and 11 returns for touchdowns but the former Packer, Viking and Saint is now serving a nine year prison sentence for a host of sexual assault charges across four states.   The list will be pared to 25 semi-finalists in November with 15 finalists named in January.   The Hall of Fame selection committee will decide its class of 2016 on the Saturday before Super Bowl 50 in Santa Clara, California in February.
