RHINELANDER, Wis. (WXPR) — Oneida County UW Extension agents are developing a program inviting young people and businesses together to learn some business basics.
Extension 4 H /Youth Development Educator Lynn Feldman says she’s developing a program to be offered next spring in Rhinelander, Minocqua and Eagle River. She says the idea is to give youth ages 14 to 18 some basic business skills such as what employers expect, how to make change, how to talk to employers and customers and other skills. “You go out into a workplace, a retail establishment and my goodness! it’s amazing to me that people are as uneducated and unfamiliar with how to deal with a customer. I think this is a wonderful approach.”
Feldman says the young people going through the one day seminar would get a certificate they present to employers when applying for jobs. She says that certificate would give the job seekers a leg up on other applicants who might not have had the basic training.
