WAUSAU, WI (WTAQ) – A driver from north central Wisconsin will spend eight years in prison for killing a pedestrian while high on drugs.
48-year-old Evan Mooney of Merrill was sentenced Thursday in Marathon County Circuit Court, two years after his vehicle struck and killed 86-year-old John Diktanas of Crivitz.
Mooney had marijuana, Vicodin, and other medications in his system at the time of the crash.
In August, he pleaded no contest to homicide while driving under the influence of controlled substances. Three other felonies were dropped in a plea deal — including 5th or 6th time drunk driving, and driving with a revoked license.
When he leaves prison, Mooney must spend 10 years under extended supervision.
