WASHINGTON D.C. (WTAQ) – The pressure is building on Wisconsin’s Paul Ryan to replace John Boehner as House speaker.
Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy — the front-runner who rejected the post Thursday — says the Janesville Republican is now “talking to people” about accepting the job. That was after Ryan said no for the second time since Boehner announced his resignation late last month.
Ryan is not adding fuel to the latest fire, just claiming he has “nothing new to say.”
Boehner is among those leaning on Ryan to change his mind.
Governor Scott Walker tweeted his belief that the 45-year-old Ryan should go for the speaker’s post. Walker wrote, “Paul Ryan went to Washington to DO something great, not to BE something great.”
Ryan insists he already has his favorite job in the House, as he helps dictate tax policy as head of the Ways and Means committee.
One of the speaker’s jobs is to raise money for House Republican candidates — something that would take away from Ryan’s weekends with his young family.
