FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – Wisconsin Senate Republican Rick Gudex will leave after one four-year term.
The Fond du Lac lawmaker says Monday morning he will not run for re-election next November.
The head of the 6th District and Fond du Lac County GOPs, Dan Feyen, threw his hat in the ring soon after the Gudex announcement. Winnebago County Executive Mark Harris is running as a Democrat.
Observers have said the Gudex seat is a prime target of the minority party. If Republicans don’t keep it, the GOP would drop to a one-vote majority if the party keeps all of its other 17 Senate seats.
In a statement, Gudex pointed to his efforts to boost the state’s tax credits for historic preservation — and his authoring of the Fast Forward program to help industries meet their needs for skilled workers.
