STEVENS POINT, Wis. (WSAU) — Central Wisconsin residents will be able to learn more about how federal rules impact local businesses and individuals in Stevens Point Friday afternoon.
The U.S. Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is conducting a field hearing at UW Stevens Point. Senator Ron Johnson chairs the committee, and brought it to Wisconsin to hear about how Washington’s regulations are causing problems here.
The witness list is extensive, and the committee plans to discuss several regulations including the Waters of The U.S. rule, which is being challenged by several states in court, and President Obama’s energy plan and the regulations tied to that.
Along with the Attorney General’s office and Ag groups, witnesses from the energy and manufacturing sectors will testify before the hearing. Most of the listed witnesses will likely speak against the federal regulation or over-regulation of resources and land use. The hearing starts at one o’clock.
The hearing is hosted at the Dreyfus Center, on a UW campus that is well known for its conservation and environmental programs. That could bring out both the supporters and the opponents of these far-reaching federal regulations.
It will be live-streamed by the state’s WisconsinEYE TV network.
