(WNFL) – The Notre Dame Tritons successfully stopped a two-point conversion with 2:57 left in the game and then held on to defeat the Xavier Hawks 21-20 in a WIAA Division 3 Level 3 football playoff game in Appleton on Friday.
Nate Ihlenfeldt led the Tritons with 111 yards rushing on 28 carries.
The victory advances Notre Dame to a Level 4 contest against No. 4-seed New Richmond.
In Division 4, Freedom held off Wrightstown 7-6 to advance to Level 4 where the Irish will No. 1-seed Osceola. Isaac Gonnering scored the only touchdown of the game for the Irish in a second-quarter on a five-yard run.
In Division 5, Amherst’s Gareett Groshek passed for 177 yards and Brandon Piotrowski rushed for 116 yards in the the Falcons’ 48-27 win over Southern Door. Amehrst led 48-0 at halftime.
In Division 7, the Coleman Cougars outscored Almond-Bancroft 34-28 with Coulton Houska scoring the game-winning touchdown on a nine-yard run in the fourth quarter. Coleman will face Pepin/Alma in a Level 4 game.
